This is a rough paraphrase of a story I read recently:
A Methodist minister had a visiting friend who owned a vineyard, and as a present the friend gave him a case of wine. The minister tried the wine, and he liked it.
On Sunday, the friend was in church, so the minister decided to begin his sermon thus: “I would like to thank a friend of mine for the gift of fruit.” He paused a bit, and added, “I appreciate it in the spirit in which it was given.”
Coming soon: PB Schori’s lecture at St. Andrew’s, which is tomorrow at 3 PM for those who are interested.
